Fun Things to Do in Spokane, Washington
Spring time is a great time to hit the road in your RV. So why not plan a trip to Spokane, Washington? Spokane is a Native American word that translates to “children of the sun”, very fitting since Spokane has an average of 260 days of sunshine each year! It’s beautiful landscape is scattered with glistening lakes and picturesque mountain peaks, perfect for outdoor recreation and water sports. If water recreation isn’t your forte, take a hike through Shadow mountain or bike along the Centennial Trail. If you're looking to venture into the city, Spokane is one of the more cosmopolitan cities in eastern Washington. If you’re thinking about visiting Spokane, here are a few ideas of things to do.
Visit a State Park
There are a couple of great State Parks to visit while you're in Spokane. Riverside State Park offers a great variety of things to do. If you are looking to camp out, look no further. Riverside offers five different campgrounds all with great amenities. Looking for a place to hike or ride a bike perhaps? The Bowl and Pitcher are at ground zero with hiking and biking trails that overlook the Spokane river. Have the kids with you? Check out the Nine Mile Recreation Area where you will find the dock, picnic area and RV hookup sites. The kids will love the beach in this area as well! You can rent a canoe, kayak or enjoy a day of fishing and boating. If it's a beautiful view you’re after then check out the Long Lake Campground located on the bluff above Lake Spokane. Here you can explore Indian Painted Rocks or take in the incredible views of Long Lake Dam. If you have your horse friends in tow, Riverside has an Equestrian Campground that's open all year round. It offers corrals, large parking areas for RV and trailers, a riding area, and miles of trails just waiting to be explored!
Another great State Park to check out is Mount Spokane State Park. It is situated on 13,919-acres and is located in the Selkirk Mountains. The view from the top includes surrounding states and Canada. Things to do here include: 290 miles of various trails,winter activities such as skiing, snowmobiling, bird watching, wildlife viewing and mountain biking.
Landmarks and Points of Interest
If you enjoy the arts, you will want to check out the Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox which is located in downtown Spokane, Washington, in the heart of Lilac City’s entertainment district. The recently renovated Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox opened in 1931 and was originally a 2300-seat movie theater. Now the theater provides a place for Spokane’s dynamic performance art scene, home to the Spokane Symphony, as well as musical acts, acclaimed entertainers, dance troupes and theater talents.
Sit back and relax with a glass of wine at the Barrister Winery located in Spokane’s Davenport Arts District. Enjoy award winning wines made with grapes from some of Washington’s most famed vineyards. The 25,000 square foot facility contains a large single-stack barrel room, an inclusive wine tasting room which showcases an art gallery of local artist’s work, and a unique event venue.
While you’re downtown, go ahead and check out Wollnick’s General Store for a truly unique shopping experience. Here you can find high quality options for your home, little knick knacks and even something for the kids. A perfect place to pick up a souvenir to remind you of your trip to Spokane, Washington.
